Back to current letter

October 2011

Dear CCA Family,

A reminder of two things that were mentioned the last two weeks:  Library Birthday Club and 4-H.  Please get your forms into the office if you want to participate.  Check the two previous “school stuff” notes for detail or call the office.

On Friday, September 30th, there will be a pick-up of books that will go to the Joplin schools that lost everything due to the tornado.  Some of their schools do not have many or in some cases any books.  We are a collection center for any elementary and secondary books that students in Joplin can use.  Bring any appropriate books for a library to CCA before 9:00 am Friday.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars is sponsoring a middle school essay contest entitled, “Are you proud of your Country?”  Please encourage your middle school student to participate when asked by their teacher.  The contest ends November 1st.

Mark your calendars for October 21 and 22.  The Reid’s are going to have a hayride/wiener roast.  The one on October 21st is for K-4-4th grade students and their families.  The one on October 22nd is for 5-8th grade students and their families.  It will be held in the late afternoon/evening and more details will come later….just mark your calendars!

Calendar for the week of September 26-30th

Monday Sept. 26th – Soccer at Home vs. Warsaw.  Pictures at 4:00 games at 5:30 & 6:30 pm.

Wednesday Sept. 28th-  Meet at the Pole 8:00 am

Thursday Sept. 29th -  3rd Grade to Powell Gardens, 4th Grade to Spooner’s             Farm.  Soccer @ Harrisonville 5:00 pm (one Game)

March 2011

Dear CCA Family,

As we are looking forward to spring, let me remind you of several upcoming events. The basketball season is now over, and we will be having our Sport’s Banquet on March 24th at 6:00. The student/staff basketball game is still in the planning stages. We hope to have a time and date soon for that.

If you have not sent in your next year’s enrollment form, please do so as soon as possible. This form will secure a spot for your student. We will be ordering books before long. The new book fees and tuition changes will be sent home in a couple of weeks.

In May we will be giving the students the Stanford Test. We ask that you have your child well rested and fed a healthy breakfast to start each day. The dates for the testing are May 9-13th.

As there are many field trips in the spring, please check Shutterfly, our webpage and Mr. Reid’s weekly note for dates and times. As always, you can call the office if you have questions.

Thank you for allowing us to teach your child.

Serving the Lord and Students,

Gene Reid

January 2011

Dear parents,

I trust you had a wonderful break and are ready to get back to work!  We here at CCA are gearing up for the 11th Annual Auction.  This will be held at the Benson Center on February 26th.  Please come and support our school!

Our basketball season is off to a great start!  Our players have worked very hard.  We have several more home games.  Please come and cheer on the Patriots!

Oct. 2010

Dear parents,

One of the highlights of our year is the Grandparent’s Tea. We will have it on Friday, October 1st. It will start at 10:00 and upon the completion of the program in the classrooms, school will be dismissed. We anticipate that all classes will be finished by 11:00 and the school day will be over. As a result of our shortened school day Friday, we will not be serving lunch.

We hope that every grandparent can come to CCA for this event. It really is important to the students to have their grandparents attend their school and visit their class.

Mid-term for the first grade period is almost here. Mid-term is on Friday, October 1st, and grades go home on Monday, October 4th. These grades will give parents an idea on how well your child has started this new school year. It by no means, is what the final grade may turn out to be at the end of the grade period.

We welcome any feedback you may have concerning our new lunch program. We want to make it the best that we can and we need your comments on what you like and don’t like about what we are doing with the lunch program.

Serving the Lord and students,

Gene Reid

Sept. 2010

Dear parents,

Today we got the school year off to great start.  There were very few minor hitches to smooth out.  We also had an excellent turn out for our picnic/orientation on Thursday night.  I hope that you will be an active member of our school family this school year.  Studies have been made that shows the more parent participation in the activities of the school the better the school is and the more learning takes place on each students part.  There are plenty of activities that you will want to participate in this year.  We try real hard to keep the parents informed of school activities.  If you have any questions or comments please don't hesitate in getting in touch with us here at school.  We hope that your child will have an excellent school year.

Serving the Lord and students,

Gene Reid

June 21, 2010

Dear CCA Family,

I hope this note finds you and your family having a wonderful summer!

Your Board and I are committed to working hard at finding ways to improve CCA wherever possible, and that is the reason for this correspondence.

The weak economy is affecting practically all of us in one way or another.  The Board took action at their last meeting on one way it could help relieve CCA families of some of their financial obligations, which is supplementing the present uniform policy with an economical option from walmart.com.  Please take note of the following:

Nothing has changed with the Land’s End and Dennis Uniform items that were on our 2009-2010 Uniform Policy!  You are free to continue purchasing and using those uniforms like you did last year.

-     6 items were selected from walmart.com to be added to our present uniform policy.

A link for each of those items is listed below.  The items are as follows:

o   George boys pleat-front pants, KHAKI, $12 each or $16 per two-pack.  Link is http://www.walmart.com/ip/George-Boys-Pleat-Front-Pants/11051709

o   George girls boot-cut pants, KHAKI, $12 each or $16 per two-pack.  Link is http://www.walmart.com/ip/George-Girls-Bootcut-Pants/11051175

o   George boys pleat-front shorts, KHAKI, $10 each or $14 per two-pack.  Link is http://www.walmart.com/ip/George-Boys-Pleat-Front-Shorts/11051442

o   George girls flat-front shorts, KHAKI, $10 each or $14 per two-pack.  Link is http://www.walmart.com/ip/George-Girls-Flat-Front-Shorts/11050999

o   George boys (order for girls, also) short-sleeve polo shirt, NAVY, $6 each or $12 per three-pack.  Link is http://www.walmart.com/ip/George-Boys-Short-Sleeve-Polo-Shirt/11051562

o   George boys (order for girls, also) long-sleeve polo shirt, NAVY, $7 each or $18 per three-pack.  Link is http://www.walmart.com/ip/George-Boys-Long-Sleeve-Polo-Shirt/11051605

-     Again, please order the boys polo shirts for boys and girls  if you wish to buy uniform shirts from walmart.com.  There is no CCA uniform equivalent girls polo shirt at walmart.com.

-     Please note that only KHAKI pants and shorts, and only NAVY shirts, from walmart.com have been added to our uniform policy.  Again, the Board’s goal was to be sensitive to the present economic condition by adding a few walmart.com items to our uniform policy, thereby providing a simple, economical alternative.  walmart.com may not have the size you need for an item.  In that case, please purchase the Land’s End equivalent that is on our uniform policy.  Please remember that this is a supplement to the uniform policy for your convenience, but not everything in every size will always be available.

-     ANY walmart.com uniform item may be returned to the Clinton Wal-Mart store for a refund.  This will save you from having to package and ship items back.

-     If you wish to purchase a multi-pack, you can find two-packs and sometimes three-packs of the exact same item at walmart.com.  The links listed above are only for one-packs.  Please be very diligent in determining that you are ordering the same exact pieces of clothing that are linked to above.

-     Our local Wal-Mart store does not carry these uniforms.  They will have to be purchased from walmart.com.

The Board has asked me to remind parents that our uniform policy is not a dress code.  At CCA our uniform policy is carried out on the honor system.  This is a great opportunity to teach responsibility and character to the children.  Substituting items outside of our uniform policy is not only breaking a school rule, but it is also teaching our children to disrespect authority.  Please respect the school’s uniform policy.

Below are the links to the CCA approved items at Land’s End and Dennis Uniform:

Land’s End link - http://www.landsend.com/pdfs/school/900064668.pdf

Dennis Uniform link - http://www.dennisuniform.com/School_Sheet_PDFs/I2A.pdf

Also, it is important to note that the Board will revisit the uniform policy again in 2014.

Thank you for your time!

Serving the Lord and Students,

Mr. Reid

March 13, 2010

Parents and patrons,

We are entering into that time of year when our thoughts turn to not only closing out the school year, but also to gear up for the next one.  We are having a very important meeting on March 16 concerning the 2010-2011 school year.  The meeting will start at 7:00 p.m. in our multipurpose room in the annex.  We encourage all parents of students that will be enrolled at CCA to attend.

We just mailed our first Grandparents Newsletter Connection.  If you have not given us the name(s) of grandparents we would encourage you to do so.  We would like to get school news to as many grandparents as possible

January 13, 2010

Parents and patrons,

I trust that everyone had a great Christmas and a safe New Year.

We will be closing out the first semester on January 22nd and the second semester will start the following Monday, January 25th.  It has gone by fast for most of us here at CCA!

The middle school is functioning great and the students like the new format real well I am told.  They enjoy using their new lockers and changing classes.  It will get them accustomed to how the hight school operates and make for a much smoother transition.

We have a full slate of basketball games scheduled this year and you can get the schedule on this website.  Come and watch some games, I think you will enjoy it!

We are getting ready to gear up for our K-4 K-5 Roundup.  If you have a child, or know a child that would benefit from a great Christian education please give the school a call.  The Roundup will be held on February 5th.  It will run from 8:00 am to 12:30 pm.

Please mark on your calendar February 22nd  for the CCA auction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Serving the Lord and students, Gene Reid

Yearbook Information

It is crucial to have pictures for the yearbook. It takes time, energy and devotion to save, send, print and label pictures; however, if we do not receive any, then the yearbook will not be successful for the school. Please have all soccer, grandparents tea, doughnuts with dad, muffins with mom, field trip, Christmas program, anything that has not been listed that happened before Christmas break, etc. pictures to Miss Genia by January 4th. Before submitting them, please label with your name and phone number in case the yearbook committee has questions, class, and event name, and label the outside envelope, or packaging “yearbook.” They can be a printed photo, a disc containing photos, or e-mailed to shaunatown@gmail.com. All pictures and discs will be returned.

Parent Organization

Thank you to all the parents that brought items, volunteered to help serve, and participated in the Grandparent’s Tea, Doughnuts with Dad, Muffins with Mom and the Thanksgiving Feast. Everything was absolutely wonderful and it is just awesome that we can still do those activities here at CCA.

Until the Auction is over, all P.O. meetings will be tied in with the Auction meetings. Please contact Phyllis Miller if something needs to be addressed.

Auction

Auction meetings are a very important part of the planning and brain-storming stage of the auction. All CCA parents need to be in attendance, if at all possible. Please pray that the auction will be a great success again this year and that God will bless and watch over it. If possible, we ask all of you to remember to do this at 8 a.m. every day. Thank you.

Music News

Please continue to pray for Mrs. Brown, who was in a car accident on December 4th. She is in Research Hospital in KC if anyone would like to call, visit, or send her a card of encouragement.

Physical Education News

Please remember in your prayers Mrs. Hager, who had surgery on Friday. She is at home recovering.

Volunteer Hours

Thank you all for everything you do for CCA. There are so many families that go above and beyond the required volunteer hours. The willingness to give and serve is appreciated more than you know.

Serving the Lord and students, Gene Reid

October 28, 2009

Parents and patrons,

Thank you for making Doughnuts For Dads and Muffins For Moms such a success!  The students really enjoy this special time that they have with their parents, and I appreciate each and everyone of you for taking time out to come and support your kids!

I have something I need to tell everyone...I'm going behind bars!  Now wait.  Don't get too excited because it is for a good cause...MDA and "Jerry's Kids."  Jail time starts on Thursday, November 12th.  If any of you have any compassion for me, you might contribute to bail me out.  It will take $500.00.  I know I probably don't have anyone that will spring for the entire amount, so I'll take whatever you feel led to contribute.  It is tax deductible by the way.  See me or send check to the school.  Thanks a million!  Or $500.00.

There has been a change in the day for the next auction meeting.  The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 10th.  Same time, 6:30pm. and same place, the multi-purpose room.  Please come and give support to this very important event for our school!

Serving the Lord and students,

Gene Reid

October 8, 2009

Dear parents and patrons,

I thought I might remind the parents of a special day for our mothers and fathers.  Doughnuts for Dads day is on October 14th. at 7:30 in the morning.   Mothers, we have a special day for you too on October 28th.   We call this day Muffins for Moms.  It starts also at 7:30 in the morning.  We hope that all of you will  be able to attend.

We are already gearing up for our auction in February.  For those of you that are new to our school, it is our one and only big fund raiser for the school.  To say that a successful auction is important to us would be an understatement.  There are two auction meetings planned for the rest of  this month.   One is on Monday, October 12th. at 6:30 pm.  The second one is on Monday, October 26 also at 6:30 pm.  Please come and help to make this auction a big success!

Serving the Lord and students,

Gene Reid

September 30, 2009

Parents and patrons,

As we are getting ready to start our second month of school, I want to say thank you to the parents and students for helping us get the 2009-2010 school year off to a great start.

We ae really placing an emphasis on safety the first week of October and it was not on purpose, it has just worked out that way. We are having a fire prevention emphasis this week along with a presentation by the postal service about safety around postal service trucks, and a school nurse is coming in to show the school the proper way to wash hands and hopefully we will be able to keep germs at bay this winter. The following week we will have a health screening for all of our students conducted by the health department.

Mid- terms are on Wednesday and teachers will be sending grades out for mid- terms on Friday.

Serving The Lord and students,

Gene Reid

September 14, 2009

Parents and patrons,

We got off to a great start and have the first week of school under our belts. Thank you parents for your help in making the first week great. It is very important to get off to a good start.

If you have been with us in the past you are aware that we have made many changes in our school for this year. Much of it involves the schedule and added classes. It is very important that your child arrives at school on time as many of our special classes start very soon after school starts and we don't want our students to miss out on any assignments. Your help is appreciated!

A part of a good education is the extra curricular activities that the students may participate. Soccer is one of them and we start our fall soccer schedule on September 17th. with a home game against Harrisonville starting at 4:30 Pm. We hope to have a large crowd not only at our first game but also at all them. Please check the calendar for a list of all of our games.

I want to mention a very important date that is fast approaching. On October 2nd. we will have our annual Grandparents' Tea. It will start at 10:00 am. We hope all grandparents will be able to join us for the morning.

Serving The Lord and students,

Gene Reid

August 20, 2009

Dear CCA patrons,

In a short time we will start the 2009-2010 school year and we are going to have a great school year!  We have made many changes that we believe will make for a better school.  Many of the changes have occurred in the middle school area.  We have also added Spanish to our curriculum starting with the K-5 class.  We have several new teachers and they are anxious to start school.

Please mark September 3rd down to attend the picnic/orientation at the school starting at 6:30 pm.

School starts on Tuesday, September 8th.  Please make sure your students are on time as we have a very busy schedule this year and activities start as soon as role is taken.

See you September 3rd!

Serving the Lord and students,

Gene Reid

June 4, 2009

Dear CCA patrons,

We are in the process of closing out the 2008-2009 school year and gearing up for the 2009-2010 year.  Let me just say I am thankful that you have given me such a warm welcome and I appreciate all the help and support that came my way.

The enrollment figures are just about complete and with them we are able to make class assignments.  We have made the following class assignments as a result of those figures:  K-4 Mrs. Trolinger:  K-5 Mrs Berry;  1st grade Mrs. Lam and Mrs. Lanning (each will teach part-time);  2nd grade Mrs.Morehead;  3rd grade Mrs. Thornton;  4th grade Mrs. Olson and Mrs. Lewis ( enrollment figures are high enough to require two classes);  5th grade Ms.  Kimbrell;  6th-8th grade Mr. Tyler lead teacher and Mr. Bancroft and Mr. Stephenson.  We plan on having  a science teacher hired soon for the  middle school.

For those of you who have not heard, we are going to be teaching Spanish starting with the K-5 students through the middle school.  Mrs. Eva Sandoval will be the instructor.  We are excited about this new class!

Mrs. Liane Hager will be our physical education teacher next year and Mr. Stephenson will be teaching speech in the middle school in addition to his history classes.  Band is also going to be reinstated with our music teacher, Mrs. Brown teaching it.

We are looking forward to having a great school year.  There are still openings in all grade levels and we would enjoy talking to prospective students and their parents about attending CCA.

Serving students and the Lord,

Gene Reid

May 11, 2009

As I write this there are only two more weeks of school left for this year.  There are many events at the close of a school year and please take a look at the calendar to see what is on there that you might attend.  I might mention two things that are of great importance at the end of a school year and those things concern graduation.  The first graduation exercise is for our 8th grade graduate on May 19 here in our multi-purpose room.  The second one is for our K-4 graduates to be held on May 21 at the First Baptist Church.  If at all possible, please attend both of these graduations to show your support for our students.

We still have openings in most of our classes for next year.  We encourage you to enroll your student and help spread the word about the importance of Christian education.

As always, if  you have any questions concerning CCA please give me a call or come in.

Serving the Lord and students,

Gene Reid

March 13, 2009

The auction is over and were we ever successful!  When the matching funds come in this month, we will not only meet our goal of $98,000 but we will pass it!  Praise the Lord!  Thank you for your help in making the auction a success!

We are in the process of enrolling students for the 2009-2010 school year.  We have some exciting things in store for next year.  We are pleased to be able to offer Spanish to our students starting with grade one through grade eight.  We are going to offer speech in our middle school.  We are going to offer a band class.  We are going to enhance our offerings in language arts at the middle school level.  We are going to have a science classroom / lab.

Give us a call or better yet, come and pay us a visit to see what all we have to offer from K-4 through eighth grade.

Service to the Lord and to students,
Gene Reid

March 9, 2009

Hello!

I want to thank everyone for their support at our auction!  We are right at the doorstep of meeting our goal of $98,000.  We will meet it when all of the matching funds come in this month.  Praise the Lord!

While I am thanking people, I want to thank those of you that contributed to the medical need of one of our teachers.  We  raised $1,000 to offset health care expenses.  Also, we collected a trunk load of school supplies for the Calhoun school district to help them recover from the fire that nearly destroyed their school.  Thank you for helping the children of Calhoun.  You are a giving people.

We are in the process of enrolling for the 2009-2010 school year.  There are openings in nearly all classes for next year.  I would encourage you, if you are a parent, to give the school a call or come by for a visit and check into enrolling your child.  We are in the process of enriching our middle school curriculum by adding Speech, beefing up our Language Arts, beefing up our Science, and adding Spanish. There is a strong possibility of having Spanish classes starting with first grade and going through the middle school.

We will end our third quarter on March 20th. and we will dismiss early on that date.

Serving students and the Lord,

Gene Reid

February 09, 2009

Hello,

Just a few words concerning the annual auction for CCA. We only have one fund raiser at CCA a year and in a few weeks it will be here. February 28 to be exact. The SILENT AUCTION begins at 12:00 noon. The LASAGNA DINNER is served at 5P.M. The LIVE AUCTION starts at 6 P.M. We hope to conclude the auction at 8:30 P.M.

Let me emphasize the importance of the auction to our organization. We are able to keep tuition low at CCA because of successful auctions. We figure that tuition would be an extra $800.00 per child if we did not do well each year with the auction. Your support is very important and we hope to see you February 28!

Service to the Lord and to students,
Gene Reid

February 2009

Hello !

I  wanted to make sure everyone was aware of an event that was approaching real fast.  Our annual K-4 Round Up will be held on February 6th. and we want to be sure that if you have a child, or know of a child, that will be four years old by August 1st. we have a special day planned for you!

The Round Up will be an all day event that will be enjoyed by all children.  We will have as our theme, Camp Out.  Please take time to look at the Camp Out page on our Web site.

I also want to let everyone know how grateful I am for the reception I have had since taking over the administrative desk!  Everyone has been so supportive and I have been made to feel right at home.  I am glad that I can be of some service to CCA.  I consider it a privilege to be able to work with young boys and girls.

As always, please feel free to come in a visit anytime!

Service to the Lord and students,

Gene Reid

January 1009

With a new year comes a new administrator…. well, that is what has happened this year.  Hello, my name is Gene Reid and I am going to be the administrator at CCA for the remainder of the school year.

I am not exactly new to CCA. I have been a board member since the inception of the school. I consider it a great privilege to be able to work with your children, not only helping them in their quest of knowledge but to also help them develop into good citizens with a respect for others and a love for God.

I will make you a promise. I will do all I can possibly do to make this the best school it can be. I ask for your support at home and together we can accomplish great things with the help of Jesus Christ our Lord.

I have an open-door policy. Come in and let’s get acquainted.

Sincerely, Gene Reid

December 2008

As December is upon us, the holiday season is in full swing.  At CCA that means a few changes.

First is the new children's pick-up policy.  Please read through the handout given to you previously.  As a reminder, we ask that all parents/guardians follow the schedule to make this a simple and easy change.  Click here for Pick-up Policy Handout

Second, children will be going from CCA to a couple area churches this month to practice their Christmas program.  As they will be out and about, make sure they have everything they need to keep warm.  The program for the 2nd through 8th grade will be on Tuesday, Dec. 9th at 7 p.m. at the Northeast Baptist Church.  The program for the k4-1st grade will be on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at 7:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church.  The students would love your support as they have worked very hard!

Third, I want to remind you that the school will be closed from 4:00 p.m. Friday December 19, through Sunday January 4, 2009.  This should not affect those who make monthly tuition payments, as they will still be due December 10th.  Please make sure all other payments, lunch, field trip, etc. payments are made before this time.

Finally, I want to remind you about where to go to for information about school closings.  You can listen to KDKD or FOX 4 NEWS for the cancellation information.  It should be on before 6 a.m.  I personally want to wish each and every family here at CCA a Blessed Christmas and a joyous New Year!

In Christ,

Mr. Slagle, CCA Administrator

October 2008

As October comes to an end there are a few things that need to be mentioned.  First is conferences.  We have scheduled parent/teacher conferences on Friday November 7.  If you have not yet scheduled a conference time, you can do so by calling the school at 890-2111.

Last month we raised over $100 for the dress down for missions day!  The money went right back to our own community as the 5th grade chose the Samaritan Center to be the recipients of the missions money for October. The fifth grade is also sponsoring a food drive for the center this Nov.  Classes are asked to bring in non-perishable items and the 5th grade will then deliver them to the center to use for Thanksgiving.

November also brings with it the Thanksgiving feast.  It is scheduled for Tues. Nov. 25 at 11:00 a.m.  Because we have a classroom now in the auditorium/lunch room and our numbers are up, we have decided to have the feast in separate rooms.  Each room will eat on their own.  This will hopefully help not only the cramped conditions, the noise but will also let the students actually get some of what they brought.  Then on Wed. Nov. 26th we will be dismissing at noon for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  There will be NO hot lunch served that day.

Finally, with the weather getting colder I want to remind you about where to go to for information about school closings.  You can listen to KDKD or FOX 4 NEWS for the cancellation information.  It should be on before 6 a.m.

Check back in November for further updates.  Like always feel free to contact the school if you have questions.

In Christ,

Mr. Slagle, CCA Administrator

September 2008

School is underway and the students and faculty alike seem to be doing well. With the start of a new school year, fall cannot be far behind. We have even had a taste of the cooler weather a couple of days last week. Teachers and parents have brought up the uniform policy on what would and would not be accepted for shirts worn under the approved uniform. We accept the solid red, white, blue or black long sleeve undershirt: Under Armor, turtle necks or crew neck shirts or the polo shirt under the approved sweater or sweater vest. As for tights, again we accept the solid red, white, blue or black tights. Outer wear, to be worn outside only, can be left up to the parent.

For our dress down for missions day, any CCA t-shirt or sweatshirt is acceptable. As for the jeans, you may wear black or blue jeans with little or no decorations. Remember that the goal of having uniforms is to help take the focus off the external differences so the students can focus on their academics. Not every detail has been written down, as it would make the handbook cumbersome. If you question if something can or cannot be worn, go by this thought: is this drawing attention to my particular student? If you answer yes, then it probably should not be worn. We want to abide by the spirit of the law and not just the letter of the law, and in cases where there is no definite clarification, if parents/students look to the major goal, then they can know that they are keeping to a standard of excellence and professionalism that the CCA community has come to expect.

In Christ,
Timothy Slagle, CCA Administrator

Summer 2008

Greetings in the name of the Lord!   For those of you who have not met me, my name is Tim Slagle and I am the new Administrator here at CCA.  I am excited about the upcoming year and I know that with the wonderful staff, parents and other support, we are going to do great things!  Teachers are already working in their rooms, checking over curriculum, and praying for their students.  Mrs. Miracle is working hard to get everything ready for volunteers to start with the workbook pages and I am learning new things daily.

Don't forget the CCA picnic on Thursday, Aug 28, at 6:30 p.m.  I want to thank the Cattlemen for sponsoring the event.  We will still need side dishes and desserts from parents.

As I begin to serve as Administrator for CCA, I covet your prayers.  I know that we all want the same thing for our students/children, and that is the best Christ centered, education possible.

    In Christ,
    Timothy Slagle, CCA Administrator
